Ableza's Mission Statement
Ableza is a Native American Arts and Film Institute is dedicated
to promoting, preserving, perpetuating, and protecting traditional and contemporary
arts by First Nations Peoples.
First Nations Peoples do more than"Indian" art. Active in
all areas of the modern-arts world, we reclaim and re-define our images,
arts, and cultures, in an effort to eliminate mainstream stereotypes and
categorizations.
Ableza endeavors to re-educate the world's erroneous impressions
of First Nations Peoples with self-defined, accurate respresentations of
our vast professional arts activities. Through our arts and arts-education
programs, especially for our youth, Ableza promotes self-esteem, and a better
concept and recognition of who we truly are.
Ableza : A Lakota (Sioux) word meaning "to recognize something
as highly significant; a sign."
